Frank Zappa on Crossfire, talking about censorship in 1993.
When putting together content for a queer youth magazine, we’re forced to think about how do we acheive maximum impact with the articles, photos, poems, headlines, bylines, captions that grace our pages. By definition, our magazine talks about sex. Hot sex. Lots of sex. The fucking and sucking and licking and sticking and kissing and dissing and teasing and pleasing. But, at the same time, we don’t want Qr to come off as vulgar or, even worse, profane or pornographic.
But, I always think of our target audience. While conservative newsstands in suburban Nebraska might take offense to some of our content, I trust that our readers in suburban Nebraska need our content more than anyone else. They need to connect with Qr content and other Qr readers in a raw, unfiltered way. That’s why I’m proud to say that neither I nor the rest of the editorial staff have yet to censor or filter any content that you see on the pages of Qr.
Your task for the day: make a hiaku using the “7 dirty words” banned by the FCC: piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits.
Keep it Qr,
Eric
